Elmien lives on a beautiful farm at the foot of a mountain, with her husband Carl a veternarian, and their three sons Eduard 16, Willem 14, and Bernard 7.

Nails have fascinated her since childhood. After school she finished a CIDESCO course in beauty therapy but that did not satisfy her need for a more effective way of obtaining well-groomed nails - false plastic tips were the only option and it did not seem right.

After a nation wide investigation she tried the rest of the world but to her surprise she came to the realisation that the nails section in the beauty industry was totally under developed.

At that time she was the proud owner of a beauty salon, La Femme, but her search to a quality nail system began. She visualized a nail product with similar properties as hair products, with permanent colour and instant length.

Years of research in laboratories, dedication and devotion started where she lead chemists to create and fulfil her vision. In 1988 Bio Sculpture Clear Gel was registered.

"I called the system Bio Sculpture. Bio - because the nails look and feel "natural". A product so close to the natural nail, that only the wearer would know the difference.
Sculpture - because I would make, design, form, shape and create something from nothing to what the user wants it to be."
